Steven Moffat of Doctor Who made it clear at a press meeting held on the 21st of March, 2012, that Coleman would be replacing Karen Gillan after she and Arthur Darvill had left. Moffat has decided to put her in the role since she seemed to have the best chemistry with Smith. She also spoke quicker than him.
